Sampling services:
Sampling Kit & Shipping
Our specialisation lies in analysing environmental samples and quantifying the presence of AMR in any type of environment.

As part of our service, we offer comprehensive support for sampling, including detailed protocols, expert guidance, and provision of sampling kits. Additionally, we can coordinate the international delivery of samples from your premises to our laboratory in Helsinki, Finland.

Optional services include:
  • Detailed sampling protocols and tutorial videos.
  • For water sampling, we can provide kits equipped with 0.22 µm pore-sized PES filter units for effective water sample filtration.
  • Global* pick-up and temperature-controlled transportation options to securely deliver your samples to our laboratory facilities.

Extraction services:
Quality controlled standards
Customers can send their samples to us in extracted eDNA form or as unprocessed environmental samples. For an additional fee, we offer a DNA extraction service using advanced, standardised procedures to ensure high-quality DNA from environmental samples.

All DNA, whether extracted by the customer or through our service, undergoes rigorous quality control to ensure precise and reliable analysis.
Selecting target genes:
Primer customisations
We have more than 600 published primer sets, enabling the detection and quantification of up to 384 genes in parallel in a single measurement using the SmartChip qPCR system.

Our service also includes the option for expert consultation on gene selection, supported by our comprehensive global database of regional resistance profiles and extensive knowledge in the field. This optimises for a targeted and efficient analysis, with the further optional possibility to customise the target genes to suit specific research needs.
Analysis:
High-Throughput qPCR
The workhorse of our service is HT-qPCR technology, a method designed to quantify genes with both precision and efficiency. This high-throughput approach allows us to screen hundreds of targets simultaneously, detecting ARGs even at low abundance within complex environmental samples.

Results:
Visualised and interactive
Results are delivered promptly within 10 working days and can be provided as raw data or accessed through the Research View of the Resistomap Platform. The platform offers advanced tools for visualising data across samples and projects over time, allowing users to interactively select specific genes and samples for detailed comparison. This feature also facilitates the creation of graphics for reports and presentations, while providing easy access to specific gene copy number data for in-depth analysis.

Which genes do you measure? Can we choose the target genes?

In each chip analysis, we can measure up to 384 genes, including 16S rRNA gene (positive control); antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) targeting aminoglycoside, amphenicol, beta lactam, florphenicol, multidrug efflux-pump, macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin B (MLSB), trimethoprim, tetracycline, vancomycin; genes targeting other antibacterials such as nisin, bacitracin, antiseptic, mercury; and genes that are associated with mobile genetic elements (MGEs) and integrons.

Yes, you can customise the target genes with an extra customisation fee. The customisation options for chip analysis are:

  • 296 Genes: 5 Samples;
  • 248 Genes: 6 Samples;
  • 216 Genes: 8 Samples;
  • 144 Genes: 12 Samples;
  • 120 Genes: 14 Samples;
  • 96 Genes: 18 Samples;

You can choose the target genes based on over 600 previously validated primer sets that are available in our database from the the ARG selection sheet that we will send you separately.

Do you detect pathogens?

Yes, at the moment we have 26 primer sets available to target certain taxonomy group of bacteria and pathogens.

Which sample types do you accept?

We accept all types of samples, e.g., soil, sediment, sludge, manure, stool, meat, tissue, swabs, river, lake, wastewater, and seawater.

How long is the analysis process?

We deliver analysis results within 10 working days. For three or more chips, the analysis process may take longer.

What services do you offer?

In Resistomap we provide antibiotic resistance monitoring services starting from sampling to the final analysis of the SmartChip qPCR results.
