Today marks the start of World AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance) Awareness Week—a global call to action against one of the most pressing challenges of our time.

AMR is a global problem that demands urgent attention, and we’re seeing promising steps forward. From the recent approval of the EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive revisions, which now include measures to tackle AMR, to the UN’s political declaration on addressing the global AMR crisis, momentum is building. Adding to this progress, WHO has introduced its latest tool, the Antimicrobial Resistance Curriculum Assessment Tool for Medical Education, designed to strengthen awareness and education worldwide.

These types of significant milestones reflect the progress of a vast number of initiatives across the board and humanity coming together to battle this incredibly formidable challenge. This is making this year’s World Antimicrobial Awareness Week especially significant.

This week, in collaboration with Takara Bio, we plan to bring you a shared message on the importance of tackling AMR. Together, we'll explore what AMR is, and also why monitoring AMR in the environment is an essential piece of the puzzle in the fight to mitigate its spread. Over the next three days, stay tuned for a series of posts diving into:

  • What AMR is and why it matters to everyone.
  • The science and technologies driving AMR research.
  • How we can collectively work to combat the spread of antimicrobial resistance.

Join us on this journey to raise awareness and contribute to a future where antimicrobial resistance is managed effectively.

Together, we can make a difference!
