September 11, 2024

With the launch of our Water Biosecurity Platform at the World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Congress in Philadelphia, we're raising the bar for how AMR in water systems is monitored and managed. The Resistomap Platform offers a complete, end-to-end service that not only measures AMR levels with precision but also provides clear, actionable insights.

Introducing the Resistomap Water Biosecurity Platform: Now Available Worldwide!
(See demo here)

This biosecurity intelligence tool converts quantitative AMR measurements into meaningful insights, revealing trends in AMR levels across different locations and over time. It also uses the Antibiotic Resistance Gene Index (ARGI) as a standardised metric, making it easier to compare the abundance of AMR genes in the environment. Additionally, pathogen prevalence and other key AMR markers are displayed through user-friendly visualisations. Future updates will include tools for analysing wastewater treatment process performance and assessing AMR risk on a comparative basis.

At the heart of the water biosecurity platform is a meticulously curated 96-gene package, specifically designed to detect and quantify 96 target genes, including AMR genes, pathogen markers, and other key indicators of human health risks and environmental pollution (One Health). This ensures that the most critical genes linked to antimicrobial resistance are accurately tracked and analysed.

Here’s how organisations in key sectors can benefit from adopting our platform:

  • Public Health:
Public health organisations must stay ahead of emerging AMR threats, and wastewater-based surveillance is a powerful tool to complement patient data with population-level insights. The Resistomap Platform functions as a health sentinel by providing data that enhances antibiotic stewardship, resource allocations, and offers an early warning system for AMR on a population-wide scale.

  • Water Utility & Environmental Protection:
Water utilities and environmental agencies are responsible for ensuring the safety and sustainability of public water systems. The Resistomap Platform equips these organisations with the ability to systematically monitor AMR genes across various water bodies, such as rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. By deploying the platform, agencies can assess the impact of AMR pollution and intercept developing hotspots with timely corrective actions. This data-driven approach also helps identify pollution sources and enable preventative measures to protect ecosystems from long-term damage.

  • Wastewater Treatment (WWTPs):
Wastewater facilities play a critical role in preventing the spread of antimicrobial resistance. By integrating the Resistomap Platform into daily operations, WWTPs can monitor AMR levels at both the inlet and outlet of the plant. This allows treatment facilities to track the efficiency of AMR gene removal, optimise their processes, and ensure compliance with future regulations aimed at reducing AMR pollutants in effluents. The platform’s advanced tools, such as ARGI and removal efficiency scores, give actionable insights to adjust treatment protocols effectively.

Whether you are involved in water management, environmental protection, or public health, our platform offers a seamless, scalable solution designed to be integrated into your existing systems. By combining standardised sample collection, eDNA extraction, and quantification of AMR-related genes, the platform delivers clear, actionable insights to optimise processes and safeguard both public and environmental health.
